the postseason for the first time since 1948. Despite stars like
Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, and Whitey Ford, they were outpaced by
the Cleveland Indians, who won an AL-record 111 games. Berra had an
MVP-caliber season, and Mantle continued his rise as a superstar,
but the Yankees’ five-year championship streak (1949-1953) ended.
Despite their excellence, 1954 is one of the rare seasons where a
100+ win Yankees team didn’t reach the World Series.
