1951 Menko JCM126 Joe DiMaggio (U.S. All Star Japan Tour) #9157
PSA VG 3 – Pop One, One Higher. The offered card originates
from the Menko series designated JCM126 and was produced in
conjunction with the U.S. All Star Tour of Japan in 1951. Featuring
New York Yankees perennial All-Star center fielder Joe DiMaggio,
the card was issued in the Land of the Rising Sun at the end of the
Joe D’s storied, Hall of Fame career. One of 11 players featured in
the set, DiMaggio stood head and shoulders above the rest.
Incredibly rare, this card was the last one issued during his
playing days as he announced his retirement from baseball during
the U.S. Japan Tour. The card (#9157) measures approx. 1-5/16″ x
2-7/8″ with the card front utilizing a colorful cartoon
illustration of DiMaggio, while the back has the same illustration,
minus the vivid colors. Graded PSA VG 3. This is the only
card graded VERY GOOD in the PSA Pop Report with just one rated
higher.
